Professor and PhD supervisor at the Sociology Department of the Faculty of Political Sciences within the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA), researcher at the Institute for the Study of National Minorities Problems. He obtained his PhD in 2009 at the University of Bielefeld (Germany).
In the past he has had DFG, Marie Curie, New Europe College, Erste research grants and he has conducted field research in Romania, Germany and Italy. He is interested in the broad theme of migration, ethnicity and societal changes. In this sense he coordinated several team research projects: the PCE projects – Recovering the voice of migrants. Local Perspectives on Migration, Development and Social Change in Romania (recastingmigrantsvoices.wordpress.com) 2012-2016 and Return Migration in IT and Agriculture. Adaptation, Innovation and Social Remittances (returnita.wordpress.com) 2021-2023. He also coordinated a postdoctoral project at ISPMN between 2010 and 2012.
Over the years he has published articles in journals such as Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Journal of Immigrant and Refugee Studies, International Migration, Population, Space and Place, Antipode, and other. Among the volumes edited and authored, he published Romanians in Western Europe. Migration, transnational connections and status dilemmas (Rowman and Littlefield 2013); The making of world society. Perspectives from transnational research (transcript, together with Eva Gerharz, Gilberto Rescher and Monika Salzbrunn, 2009); Transnational return and social change. Hierarchies, identities and ideas (Anthem press 2019, together with Margit Fauser and Paolo Boccagni). He is currently dealing with the analysis of the relationship between mobility and land use in several locations in southern Transylvania.
Research interests: migration, minorities and ethnicity, return migration, societal transformations, globalization and transnationalism, integration, post-socialism, qualitative methodologies.
Profesor universitar doctor (abilitat) la Departamentul de Sociologie al Facultății de Științe Politice, Școala Națională de Studii Politice și Administrative, membru în Școala Doctorală SNSPA și cercetător la Institutul pentru Studierea Problemelor Minorităților Naționale. A obținut doctoratul în 2009 la Universitatea din Bielefeld (Germania).
În trecut a avut burse de cercetare DFG, Marie Curie, New Europe College, Erste și a efectuat cercetări de teren în România, Germania și Italia. Este interest de tematica largă a migrației, etnicității și schimbărilor societale. În acest sens a coordonat mai multe proiecte de cercetare de echipă: proiectele PCE – Recuperând vocea migranților. Perspective locale asupra migrației, dezvoltării și schimbării sociale în România (recastingmigrantsvoices.wordpress.com) 2012-2016 și Migrația de întoarcere în IT și agricultură. Adaptare, inovare și remiteri sociale (returnita.wordpress.com) 2021-2023. A coordonat, de asemenea, un proiect postdoctoral la ISPMN intre 2010 și 2012.
De-a lungul anilor a publicat articole în reviste precum Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Journal of Immigrant and Refugee Studies, International Migration, Population, Space and Place, Antipode, și altele.
